The box features the LesDIY logo and a picture of the constructed birds with the title Great Crested Grebe and Chick.
The part bag is labelled as 3630676-1. This will build the chick first.
The pieces are pretty standard with a mix of mostly black, white and gray bricks. I uploaded this picture to chatGPT and it counted 85 pieces here.
There are no printed instructions with this set. The box contains a Card with a QR code which you scan. It will provide you with a link to the instructions which you can view and download. For this set, there are two links, one for the grebe chick and the other for larger crested grebe.
Build the body first.
Then the head.
And then attach the head to the body.
Here's a few more shots of the Grebe Chick. The bricks were decent and clutched well. No missing parts on this one. Here's my impression:
Clean, minimalistic color blocking.
Compact build with just the right amount of texture.
Clever shaping of the body with slopes and cheese wedges.
Alright next we move on to the Great crested grebe.
The bag is numbered 3630676-2.
and these are all the parts.
Build the body first. I had a missing 1x1 curved part that makes up one of the feathers.
Then build the neck and attach it to the body.
Now build the head and attach it to the neck.
This set makes excellent use of brown/tan tones to mimic feathering. Great balance between blocky LEGO aesthetic and organic bird shape.
I placed the two waterfowl birds on a blue baseplate to simulate them being in the water.
Off to the races!
Final Thoughts
The great crested grebe and chick were easy builds, great for people who are just getting into the building block hobby or if you are a fan of birds. I like the colour contrast between the two birds. I think the designer SKABRAM did a great job in capturing the essence of the grebes.
It's too bad I had a missing piece on the larger bird, however, I believe that you can reach out to LesDIY to get a replacement piece.
