Review of the Home Depot Warehouse Model THD1000 Building Block Set

Hello brick fans!

A few days ago, I saw a Home Depot ad pop up on my Facebook feed.  But this ad wasn't the usual ones promoting their services or the latest flyer sale.  I was intrigued by what I saw, was it AI generated? A Home Depot Warehouse building block set?

When I clicked on the ad, it led me to the Home Depot Canada website and sure enough there's a listing for the building block set but what's strange is there's no price on the listing.  There seemed to be actual reviews of the set, so it didn't look fake.   Reading the comments, looks like the set became available for sale sometime in either October or November with a retail price of about $40 CDN.

According to the description the set is:

Home Depot Store Front Warehouse Building Block Toys (284 Pieces)

Model # THD1000|Store SKU # 1001878240

I checked the inventory on-line at my store and there appeared to be quite a few in stock.  So I hopped into the car and headed over to my closest Home Dept store.

Entering the store I made my way to the Christmas Tree aisles and sure enough there were two small skids of the building block sets.   The price sticker shows that it has been reduced from $39.99 to $29.99.  Looks like one of the store associates had a bit of time on their hands, because there was actually a model already assembled sitting on top of the boxes.  I grabbed one of the sets and figured I could always come back for another later.

When I rung it up at the self serve checkout, I got a pleasant surprise because the price of the set was further reduced to $19.98.   And because of the temporary federal and provincial tax holiday, the GST/PST was reduced to zero.  Nice!

Unboxing

Ok, so we are back home, so it's time to check out the Home Depot Warehouse set.  According to the info on the front of the box, the set has 284 pieces. The contents of the box are all listed.  The set has an age rating of 6+.

All of the parts and accessories for the set are featured on the back of the box.  "Figurine stickers included".

Looks like there are several bags in the box.

I counted 8 bags of parts, some have the set number on them and some don't.  At first glance, all of the pieces look to be Lego compatible.

Included are two dark gray baseplates each measuring 20x32 studs.

A thin 14 page instruction booklet is included.  Instructions look to be easy to follow and there's a parts inventory at the end of the manual.

The set comes with two sticker sheets.

Two figures are also included, a store associate and a customer.  These have a unique design and are not compatible with Lego style minifigures.

They are assembled as shown above.

Inspecting the parts, I found a couple of unique pieces.

Although the set comes with sticker sheets, there are actually pieces with prints on them!  The "glass" pieces are clear and scratch free.  All in all the parts look to be very high quality.

The Warehouse Build

Having unboxed and inspected all of the pieces, it's time to build the warehouse.

The lower corner of the picture is the cart return area.  I didn't use the accompanying sticker though.

With the figures out placed in front, the store facade looks mighty small.

Assembling the two lamp posts.  Guess it's too much to expect them to be lit up.

Placing the lamp posts onto the baseplate.  And complete the building by adding the roof designs.

There's a boxy Home Depot sign that comes with the set.

The store comes with a really small garden center.

Other accessories that come with the set include the cart bay, shopping cart and trolley.

A pickup truck is also included except I was missing one of the gray pieces for the back of the truck.  There are some Home Depot stickers I still need to apply to the rental truck.

I guess for the price of $20 the set is ok given the number of accessories that it includes.  You also get some nice printed parts and extra stickers if you want to use them.  Not sure if I will keep the figures or not.  The one missing piece is not a show stopper for me, because I have replacement parts in my brick stash, but I'd be upset if I was a novice builder with no extra pieces to replace the missing part.
The cart bay is way larger than the contractor's store entrance.
This set looks like it was made for the Canadian market.  I wonder if there's an American version?

I didn't use the plant leaves and there's a small handful of extra bits.

The inside of the warehouse is barren, but it has a lot of potential to be furnished with your own tools and things.   When time permits, I might just transform this display set into a full modular building.   I guess we'll have to see!

Anyways, let me know what you think, is it worth $20?   Thanks for looking, Bye for now!
