Is the Leji 1661 building set a decent replica of Lego 10278 police station?

Hey brick fans!

I just finished building the Leji 1661 Police station modular building.  It's a replica of the official Lego set 10278.

I bought this set off Aliexpress about 2 years ago from a storefront called Building Block World Store.  With only a 75% rating, it had all of the modular buildings for sale and I paid $89 CDN for the Police Station but wasn't sure if it would get delivered or not.  It did and it's been sitting in my closet unbuilt until now.  I tried to look up the store on Aliexpress but I think it's gone now.

Unbagging and building

Here's how my set came from Aliexpress.  It consisted of large bags of parts numbered 1 through 7, a 32x32 baseplate and a generic manual with 1661 printed on it.

Here's a sample page from the manual. The instructions are a bit small and aren't broken down into any numbered sections.  And more specifically they don't correspond to the parts bags either, so during the build you just open up the bag number one and keep building until the parts run out and move onto the next bag.

Here's the some of the packaged parts bags.  These contain the parts to assemble each of the five minifigures that come with the set and a bonus little police car which is not part of the original lego version of the Police station set.  I think I reused the baseplate that came with the set for another building so I subbed in this bright green baseplate.   The minifigs look pretty decent in my opinion.

First Floor

As you can see, I decided to change the sidewalk layout and colour and also put the Leji police station on a MILs plate.  Here's my tutorial on how/why I use MILS plates under my modular buildings: https://bricksandfigs.blogspot.com/2025/12/how-to-make-mils-baseplate-for-my.html.

What follows are just some building progression pics I took.

First floor lobby.  I was missing an olive 2x2 tile for the counter but it showed up in a later bag of parts. I liked how the staircase is assembled in a non traditional manner.

Here's the beginnings of the donut shop.

Hard to see but this is the holding cell, it has a lift up cot and a toilet.  There's a crawlspace that has been carved out.

Here's the mostly finished first floor of the police station.  I ended up removing the leaves/vines on the left side of the building because I found them to be too distracting.  I'd prefer that the bench had an extra upper slate, because it looks kinda small.

Here's the news stand.  I think I'll need to put a minifigure inside of it.

Second Floor

Start of the second floor construction.

This is the start of a small apartment over the donut shop.

There's a photo room on the other side of the building.  I was missing a dark brown window from the set, so I had to replace it with one from my spare parts.

This particular 1x8 bricks was deformed so I had to replace this from by brick stash as well.

Here's the second floor office that has two desks, one with a phone and the other with a typewriter.

Second floor of the police station almost complete.

Here's the backside again.  Instead of a ladder going up to the second floor apartment, I wonder if i could build a staircase from the ground floor instead?   Might have to be a future enhancement.

Third Floor

As we build out the third floor, we find a washroom and an interrogation room.  Just wondering why there's no sink to wash up in the bathroom?  Oh and in case you're wondering what that contraption in the room is, it's a reel to reel  tape recording machine. It's an analog way to record audio on the tape for playback later.

A storage room on the third floor.  I would have used this space for the bathroom and made better use of the remainder of the third floor layout.

Third floor complete.

Rooftop

Adding the roofing details.

I very much appreciated all of the printed pieces in the Leji version of the polce station set, but don't know why it didn't just reproduce the Soap and Suds billboard sign properly instead of printing Saak and Sude?

Here's my leftover pieces from the set, mostly me not using all the pieces to add the vines gooing up the side of the building.  I got a ton of extra white bowl/planter pieces, don't know why.

Following are the pics of my completed Leji police station.

Here's my custom Police truck in front of the station.

Yeah so now I have two police stations in my city!   The one on the left is my MOC: https://bricksandfigs.blogspot.com/2020/08/my-police-station-building-moc-using.html

Final Thoughts

Model: Leji 1661 set, replica of the Lego 10278 police station
Minifigures: 5
Stickers: No
Printed pieces: Yes
Piece count: 2923 pieces
Manual: 1 generic, condensed
Missing or deformed pieces: yes
Bonus: a decent 6 stud wide police car
Where to get it: Aliexpress
What I paid: $89 CDN.

So I found the Leji bricks to have a very tight clutch, this set was made before Gobricks.  Window pieces had slight scratches on them.  In addition to the missing brown window frame, I was also missing a 1x2 light gray tile from the set.  And we can't forget about the deformed brick I found near the end of the build.

Minifigures were decent and the little police car was a bonus feature.

Design wise, I would have liked to have seen a staircase from the ground floor to the second floor apartment and I thought the layout of the third floor could have been improved slightly.  Also not having a sink in the bathroom is a no-no!   Eventually I'd like to get a LED lighting kit to illuminate this modular building.

I would recommend getting this set if you don't have a police station in your Lego city.  But you shoud also check to see if there's some newer designs based on other brands or mocs as well.
According to brick4.com, this set only gets a 2 out of 5 star rating. But I would give it maybe 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I checked Aliexpress and they are still selling the Police station replica but don't know if it's Leji or a newer clone set.    If you're looking for it, search Aliexpress for the phrase "police station building blocks".

Thanks for checking out this review!   Bye!
