Packaging and Unboxing

LesDiy sets typically come in a generic white box with a print of the set on the box lid.  Box graphics are kept to a minimum.

Parts are probably hand picked and packaged in six un-numbered plastic and ziplock bags.

Building Experience

There are no instruction manuals, only the downloadable PDF version from the provided QR code. On examining the online manuals, there are 379 steps and references to printed parts and minifigures which are not included in the set, so be forewarned.   In place of the printed parts, blank tiles were provided which was a bit disappointing.  A parts inventory is provided similar to what Lego provides in their instructions.

It took me just about one whole day to open and sort all of the 1399 parts by colour and type before any actual building began.

The predominant brick colours after sorting were white, light gray, sand green, medium nougat, sand blue and reddish brown.    As per the product listing the set uses a combination of Gobricks and Zhegao  bricks.  While I did not encounter any clutch issues, I did notice some slight colour differences in some of the bricks such as the medium nougat bricks.

Alright here's the build pics.  Because they're aren't any sections in the instructions, I've just taken pictures at relevant points during the build.

The Main Building - Fishing Supply Shop

First part of the build consists of constructing a rocky and icy ledge and setting the pylons for the pier into the water.

Next step is the pier itself.

Adding some flooring details to the pier and laying out the supply store floor.  The designer has put in lots of studded tiles for minifigures to be placed onto.  Since the set doesn't come with any, you'll need to provide your own for play and display.

As we build the supply store, we switch between accessorizing the exterior and interior.  On the outside we get a crate of fish with garbage bin and a pail.  Although the boat gets built later on, I wanted to see how it looked next to the pier.  Snowy details added.

On the inside, we build the shop counter and add some tackle boxes.  The white wedge brick is supposed to be a printed cash register.

First floor wall construction is almost complete with windows and door set into place.

The supply store colour scheme is a combination of sand green, olive green and medium nougat.

Next to attach are the left and right side awnings.

Not sure what the colourful items are supposed to be. Maybe they are fishing lures?  The barrel, chain link fence and telescope are included accessories.

There's an upper shelf that houses more knick knacks, such as scuba tanks, barrels, boxes and lanterns. Access is via a dropdown ladder.   The original design was a solid structure all the way up to the roof.  This meant that the items located in the shelf area were barely visible and not accessible.  I decided to add my own smooth tiles to the structure to facilitate removal of the second floor and permit access to the storage items.

There is a small ledge in the roof rafters where you can put a trunk.  I didn't bother since it won't be visible nor accessible once the roof panels go on.

The studded bricks on the pins will ultimately hold the slanted roof in place.

Here is the winter fish and supply shop with second floor attached.

This is a very clever design on attaching the roof panels to the supply store.  Ingenious.

The remaining roof panel attaches easily.

The final assembled fishing supply store.

Rear view.

Now let's build the ice fishing shack.

The Ice Fishing Shack

The shack is 10 studs wide by 6 studs deep and sits on 4 ski runners for easy transport to the frozen lake.

In the floor there's a simulated hole and next to it is a bench and a wood stove.

Adding the door and small window. Rest of the shack walls uses sand blue bricks.

Accessories include an ice drill, a radio, a tackle box and a coffee cup.

The wood stove vents to a chimney outside.

The Fishing Boat

The fishing boat has a bench seat with bucket and lure and it's laden with a large crab cage.  A small outboard motor is attached to the rear of the boat and can be swivelled.

Remaining Accessories

The trunk was supposed to go into the space under the roof in the supply store.  The hockey stick and skates are bonus items.

Final Thoughts

The Winter Fish & Supply set is a decent building set in which you can display all of the builds together or separately.  The open backs means that play access was considered, however one would have to provide their own minifigures to add life to the buildings.  At minimum, you'd need a shop owner and a fisherman minifigure.  Could also add a couple of tourists as visitors.  Inclusion of the printed parts listed in the original instructions would have also been appreciated.

I forgot to mention that this set came with a light brick which is embedded underneath the pier. The light brick never worked for me so I just left it as built.

Would definitely recommend this set to anyone who wants a nautically themed set or anyone who loves fishing. This set would be best suited  in a winter village type setting and it could also look great sitting next to the Lego or clone versions of the old fishing store, as it has the same vibe.   In fact, I dusted off my old fishing store (it's currently in a state of disrepair) to display next to the fishing supply store for comparision purposes.
