Background

This set is inspired by the Chinese sci-fi film The Wandering Earth 2, a prequel to the 2019 blockbuster. In the movie, humanity attempts to move Earth to a new star system to escape a dying sun . The Moon Base Carrier is one of the vehicles featured in this ambitious planetary relocation effort.

Features

  • Unique suspension and rotating wheels with rubber tires
  • Moulded front windscreen
  • Removable roof for interior access
  • Three rear doors that open inward
  • Universal mechanical arm on the roof

Lighting Features

The set includes a small battery box with two blue LED lights. These light strips are installed on the underside of the cabin.  There's also another battery box and light strip that illuminates the rear cabin interior.

Minifigures

The set comes with three Lego compatible minifigures, each featuring unique faces, detailed front and back printing, and both hairpieces and spacesuit helmets with yellow visors. Interestingly, the minifigures come with their own instruction sheets and aren't referenced in the main instructions, possibly due to restrictions from Lego regarding minifigure design copyright.

Building Experience

The build is divided into five numbered bags, each containing smaller bags of parts. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, making the assembly process smooth. The set includes three sticker sheets of which two are only pictured below. The stickers are thin and require careful application, as they can't be repositioned once placed.

Step 1 covers building the skateboard chassis and the central pillar which I believe serves as an elevator to the elevated cabin.

Step 3 constructs the cabin and cockpit.

Some cool printed display panels in the cockpit.

After step 4, the cabin is attached to the platform.   Just a note that the side walls are really fragile and seem to fall off whenever it's handled.  Out of all the Sembo branded sets I've built, this is probably my least favourite in terms of build quality and clutch.   As a future project, I plan to rebuild the cabin and correct the structural deficiencies.

Here's an interior view.   As you see there's ample space in the rear of the cabin, with extra seating for another four occupants.   As part of my future rebuild, I'd like to partition off the aft cabin and create an airlock so that the rest of the cockpit and forward cabin can remain pressurised.

Here's the completed Lunar Mobile Vehicle.   I've avoided placing the stickers onto the exterior walls until I've rebuilt it.  For now it's going to look just a bit underwhelming.

For a size comparision, here is the Lunar Mobile vehicle Sembo 107104 parked next to my over modified Lunar Pickup Truck 107105.  The Lunar Mobile vehicle is a bit narrower and shorter in size.

Final Thoughts

The Sembo 107104 Moon Base Carrier offers a detailed and interesting building experience, especially for fans of The Wandering Earth franchise. Its unique design, functional  and lighting features, and inclusion of minifigures make it a standout addition to any sci-fi building block collection, however

The rooftop lift arm didn't clutch that well and it would come off the roof during attempts to pose it, making it more for display than functional.  I thought that the cabin walls aft of the cockpit were quite fragile and could use a new redesign to better strengthen the model.  Also wish that Sembo had used more printed parts and less stickers.

I'm going to give it a 4 out of 5 rating, with points deducted for fragility and high sticker usage, but I look forward to a future re-engineering of this kit as I did for the Sembo 107105 truck set.

Anyways that's the review for the Sembo 107104 Wandering Earth 2 Moon Base Carrier building block set.   Let me know what you think of this set in the comments, love it or hate it?

Thanks for looking, bye for now!
