Review Time: Let's look at the Wekki Dessert House 516601 Building block set

Hey brick fans, welcome back to another review of the latest Lego compatible sets!  Today we will be looking at the Wekki Dessert House building block set.  The set number is 516601 and it comes with 384 pieces and a somewhat Lego compatible minifigure.  The set has a combination of printed parts and stickers.

So I came upon this set at the recent grand opening of a new asian food store called T&T located inside  Fairview Mall.  The store had a fairly large display of mostly smaller girl themed Wekki, Toptoy and Pantasy building block sets.

Of all the sets there, this Wekki Dessert house had the most potential for integration into a larger modular building MOC, so I picked it up for about $16 CDN before tax.  Pricing is fairly average, not cheap but not expensive either.

The Box

Let's look at the the box and it's contents.

The box is colourful and has a decent shot of the Wekki Dessert House.  Most of the wording on the box is in Chinese, so it looks like a Chinese domestic product that was ordered by  the Asian grocery store.

The back of the box depicts this set along with 3 other small buildings as part of a theme.  They are all small shops covered in colourful foliage.   There is a drink shop (green), a bridal boutique (lavender), the Dessert House (yellow) and a flower shop (pink).  Each set comes with a unique figure and I'd imagine that they all have roughly the same amount of pieces.

On one side of the box, it shows you the minifigure that comes with the set.

On the other side, it shows the set dimensions and set number.

Unboxing

Stuffed inside the Dessert House box, there are two bags numbered 1 and 2, a smaller bag containing the minifigure (not shown), an instruction manual, a brick separator, an advert card, a minifigure assembly card and two stickers.
Bags 1 and 2 correspond to the steps in the manual.

These are the two stickers.

This is the foldable card that features some of the other Wekki sets.

While the minifigure is Lego compatible, I'm not a fan of her anime style facial features.

Step 1

Set instructions are easy to follow.  I'm assuming the normal demographic for this set would be young girls.

The footprint of the set is approximately 16 studs wide by 10 studs deep after step 1.

The larger bag numbered 1, contains smaller bags of parts.  Here's a look at the pieces you get in step 1.

Step 1 focuses primarily on the construction of the shop.  Here is the backside, no door just an opening, an exterior lamp and mostly windows.  Of particular note are the printed frames on the upper window pieces.

On the front of the shop, there is a nice display counter with lots of dessert offerings.  The Dessert House sign is a sticker that spans two 2x6 tiles.  However the little signboard is printed as well as the door sign. The cat is included with the set.

No studs on the outside upon which to attach the minifigure but there is a raised 2x2 plate inside for her to stand on.  The shop itself is only 12 studs wide and 6 studs deep.

Step 2

Step 2 builds the rear fenced seating area and the large sakura tree.  Most of the parts in this step are flower and tree related.

Probably half of this set is comprised of flower pieces. Aghh!

At the back there is a small table with different desserts.  The overhanging tree branches and the pastel coloured foliage on the ground makes it a nice little garden.

Surprise Special Feature

The roof of the Dessert House is hinged.

Here it is tilted forward.  Can you guess what it's for?

It turns out that this Dessert house is also a storage container.  In the instruction manual, they show markers and pens inside.   I collected a bunch brick separators and my FunWhole tweezers and put them inside.

And here's a special guest who has come to visit the Dessert House.   It's not really wheelchair friendly, but that can be easily rectified by removing one of the fences.

Hope you have enjoyed this little tour of the 384 piece Wekki Dessert house.  Let me know what you think, is it worth the $16 or not?

Anyways, that's a wrap.  See you next time, bye!
